I would like to start by shining a light on the 14 runners who are currently training with me in the Run Far Iggy 5k training program. Most of these folks, made up of men, women and a couple of teenagers, are new to the sport and wanted to embrace the challenge of running a 5k. It hasn’t been easy, as we meet at 6pm and most have already worked a full day. It is also still quite warm out in the evenings, adding another element of difficulty. I am so impressed by their enthusiasm, perseverance and genuine interest in how to become a better, stronger runner. It is not easy and I am quite proud of them. I look forward to celebrating the completion of, for most, their first 5k!
On that note, the countdown to our FIRST annual Iggy 5k Run, Walk and Kid Dash has begun, as we are officially less than one month away. Thank you so much to our generous sponsors for all of their support! The committee is working hard to make this one of those events that people can’t wait to do again next year. As I write this, we are closing in on 100 participants for the race, along with the generous offer from our St. Ignatius junior high cross country coach to solicit volunteers from his own runners (who have a meet that morning). There is still a need for volunteers, so please email us iggy5k@saintischool.org if you would like to help. We also hope many more will sign up to run or walk and then join us for our Oktoberfest after party. You won’t want to miss this!
Thank you to those who have reached out about becoming a EMHC for our homebound parishioners. This has been a tremendous gift to them. Serving those unable to physically get to Mass by bringing Jesus, truly present in the Eucharist, into their homes is not only a blessing to those of us who do it, but it also provides great joy to our homebound.
Please contact me if you would like to help bring Communion to those who cannot get to Mass.
On September 25th, we will resume our PT screenings in Loyola Hall, with Matt Gingras on hand providing his expertise to those who wish to come see him between 9am and noon. I have watched Matt in action and I’m almost sorry I don’t need a PT screening! He is knowledgable, thorough and truly concerned about the issues which people present. I am so grateful for his generous gift of time, so please take advantage of his services for issues such as: joint pain or stiffness, difficulties with hobbies such as gardening, golfing, playing pickle ball, hiking, walking, etc., balance issues and/or hoping to decrease risk of falls, assistance in fitting of/ training with assistive devices (walker, collator, cane, crutches), screening of injury following athletic event (sports, running, biking, etc). You can also seek his professional advice on any other issue not listed. Finally, I would like to wish all the school families a safe and successful new school year. Please know that I am praying for the teachers, staff, parents and kids as you start back to school. May God bless you and keep you and your families safe!
