I continue to thoroughly enjoy my job here at St. Ignatius. I have discovered a real love of “community” type nursing visiting some of our homebound parishioners. Coming from, and still working in, a fast paced, structured clinical setting, it has provided much joy to slow down, sit and often times, just listen. The BEST part is that I am privileged to bring our Blessed Lord in the Eucharist to some of them. I can’t think of a more important job than being responsible for transporting the physical body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus to those unable to get to Mass. I also attribute the presence of Jesus in my car to the much more tolerant driver I have become, particularly on Wednesdays (my day to visit the homebound).
The parish health ministry is in search of help for a parish family with a special needs son. Sadly, the nursing shortage in home care agencies has taken a toll on those who rely on such help for their loved ones. It is next to impossible to find nurses and nurse’s aides who aren’t already working full time or who haven’t left the field in pursuit of other careers. The result is that many families are without respite, leaving them exhausted and struggling to cope. If you or anyone you know is willing and able to volunteer a couple of hours weekly to help this family (their greatest need is Thursdays and Fridays), please reach out and I will provide more details. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
We are in the process of bringing SoulCore classes weekly to St. Ignatius. This will be a change from the already scheduled twice monthly classes. Stay tuned for a final schedule as we work to find the best option that fits the most people. If you have never tried SoulCore, consider going out of your comfort zone and trying it. Worst case scenario is that you decide it is not for you. Best case, you love it and make it a regular part of your self care routine.
February blood pressure screenings will take place after all Masses (including Saturday, Feb. 26th 4:30 pm) on Sunday, February 27th. Please stop by and allow one of our skilled nurses to check your blood pressure. In exchange, you will receive a healthy, but still delicious, dessert recipe. I wonder, do people realize there really IS such a thing as a healthy dessert that actually tastes delicious? There is! As we journey toward the holy season of Lent, may we find time to silence ourselves a little each day and listen for the voice of God, who never stops pursuing and inviting us into a deeper relationship.
