The Book Booth is back for IGGYFest 2024!

More information coming soon.

We wanted to send a quick thank you to ALL of you for your help, prayers, and generosity for another successful Mary Garden Showers at St. I’s. Michelle was very thankful and appreciative of the beautiful shower and everyone who helped. Thank you for making the moms-to-be feel special, loved and celebrated. Whether it’s through a friendly smile as she walks into the shower, helping wrap the gifts, sending a gift, providing food, coordinating the students cards and prayer books, providing the beautiful desserts, helping set up and decorate, clean up, talking to family and friends at the shower, and especially keeping her in your prayers – we could not make an impact without everyone!

And a special THANK YOU to the Parish Health group, lead by Kate Rewwer, for being our sponsor group!! You all did such a wonderful job and we really appreciate your help!

Please mark your calendars for our next shower which will be on Sunday, October 8th!

We will reach out to PCW likely in July to connect with our next mom in need. The St. James WWMIN group will be our wonderful sponsor group for the October shower – thank you!

We will be in touch and if you have any questions, suggestions, etc. as we continue this ministry please do not hesitate to share. We are so thankful for you all!

Our Walking with Moms in Need (WWM) year of service continues and with the support of Bishop Fernandes, we have launched St. Ignatius as an official Mary Garden Showers (MGS) chapter! This ministry is a way that our parish can serve those in need beyond our WWM year of service. We will host baby showers a few times a year at St. Ignatius for women referred to us through Pregnancy Center West (PCW). MGS is truly an entire parish ministry; everyone is invited to attend the showers to celebrate the mom, pray with her, and provide needed gifts from her registry. Being present to these women can be just as great of a gift as a material gift, and is a way to evangelize and share Christ’s love. More details to come, but there will be many different ways that you as a parishioner can participate.

The MGS we host at St. Ignatius are meant to complement the work that the Respect Life Committee does to support PCW through their Baby Bottle Drives. The goal is for the parish to continue to support those drives as we have in the past since they are crucial to providing funds and needed items for PCW in their mission to support and protect life. With the addition of MGS, our parish will be helping women in need on two levels: helping a lot of women in a small way through the Baby Bottle Drive and helping a few women in a larger way by accompanying and supporting them with our MGS. Both will help our community to spread love and support to women in need!

We also have been working with the Archdiocese of Cincinnati (AoC) to help them update their website to include our list of researched, local resources for women in need. The AoC website will house links to these organizations for all parishes to reference to help direct those in need. We hope to share that link with you this fall.

We thank you in advance for your continued prayers and support!

McCreary County – Good Shepherd Mission Chapel

McCreary County is located in Appalachia in Southern Kentucky 10 miles north of the Tennessee border, in the Cumberland Lake area; and is south of Somerset, Kentucky. McCreary County is the poorest county in the United States according to the IRS. Many of the men are former coal miners and had little education. The coal mines were closed many years ago leaving no means of financial support. Some were able to find odd jobs to do and make mountain crafts to support their families.

Good Shepherd Mission Chapel, a Mission of St. Mildred’s Church in Somerset, is located in Whitley City, and was started by the Good Shepherd Sisters from Connecticut who converted an automobile repair garage into their residence, a second-hand clothing shop, and space for an attached Chapel to serve the people who live in the county. They offered a pre-school program working with young children and moms during the year, Vacation Bible School programs during July, help with financial assistance, clothing, food, and many other projects. About 8 years ago the sisters were called back to Connecticut due to health and age concerns, but many people from their Parish have stepped up to continue what the sisters had started. There is now a Christian Care Center, Food Pantry, Medical facility, and a home build program. Men from the St. Ignatius Men’s group have helped with the home build program during the summer.

Parishioners from St. Ignatius became involved with those in McCreary County in 2005 and have been able to help through our Lenten Cart Sunday collection of toiletries, personal care and cleaning items; Christmas in July collection of food, etc., and through our PSR and school’s toy collection in November to provide new toys and gifts for approximately 300-400 children at their Christmas Party in December.

Volunteers are always needed to help sort the collections on the weekend and drivers are needed the Saturday after each collection to drive to McCreary County to deliver the donations. To become involved or for more information, contact Pat LaMonte, plmcincy41@gmail.com.
