The Saint Ignatius Outreach Fund was established in 1986 to give witness to our faith community’s adherence to the Social Doctrine of the Church, including the key principles of solidarity and the preferential option for the poor. Following the recent teachings of Pope Francis in his exhortation Evangelii Gaudium, we wish to say “no” to an “economy of exclusion” (EG 53-54) and “yes” to the call “to watch over and protect the fragile world in which we live, and all its peoples” (EG, 216).
Through its Outreach Fund, St. Ignatius of Loyola wishes to show forth the face of the Samaritan Church (cf. Encyclical Letter Fratelli Tutti, nn. 57-86) by showing compassion toward the poor and marginalized in response to the Lord’s call to “Go and do likewise.”
Consequently, financial assistance will be given only to those non-profit agencies, organizations, or groups, whether within or beyond our parish boundaries, whose mission is to educate, advocate for, and act on behalf of the poor, the marginalized, and those at the “spiritual and existential peripheries” of society. Additionally, funding will be given to those who seek to overcome structural injustice by promoting the integral development of the human person and human dignity.
