November ~ Parish Health Happenings

“Let all creation help you to praise God. Give yourself the rest you need. When you are walking
alone, listen to the sermon preached to you by the flowers, the trees, the shrubs, the sky, the
sun and the whole world. Notice how they preach to you a sermon full of love, of praise of God,
and how they invite you to proclaim the greatness of the one who has given them being”

–St. Paul of the Cross

St. Paul of the Cross’s suggestion is not difficult to carry out in autumn with the trees ablaze with beautiful colors. Spending time outdoors walking, hiking, running or even just sitting gives us an all access pass to a splendid backdrop of color. Once those trees become bare and the weather begins to change, it is can be difficult to begin or maintain any kind of exercise routine. This year you can try something different by committing to making the journey with Joseph and Mary from Nazareth to Bethlehem in our Parish Health Advent Challenge. While Google has a range of distances depending on the route one travels (anywhere from 70-93 miles), I’m going to guess that the Holy Family traveled about 80 miles (truly just a guess). For us to travel this distance in 28 days (from 1st day of Advent until Christmas), one would need to average 2.8 miles per day. While this seems like a lot to commit each day, this can be broken up in many ways. For example, a 5 or 6 mile stationary bike ride, a 4 or 5 mile walk or run on the weekend, etc. One does not have to do something every day to reach 80 miles! If you are interested in finding out more details or in joining, please email me at krewwer@sainti.org or call (513) 460-7025.

Our November physical therapy screenings will take place on November 20th in Loyola Hall from 9:30-noon. Please note that this is a change from our usual 4th Sunday screenings.
Blood pressures will be remain on the 4th weekend after all Masses in the back of church, November 26th and 27th.

Parish Health is partnering with the St. Ignatius Mom’s Ministry leaders to bring in a speaker on topics of interest related to the physical and or mental health of our families. These topics can
range from navigating nutrition challenges with picky eaters to the mental health of pre-teens and teens and the effects of technology related to social media. If you are part of the Mom’s Ministry Facebook group, please visit the page and vote in the poll. This will help us address the most pressing areas of concern to our school parents.

Please click on the link to sign up for a day of prayer and fasting for those enduring the war between Ukraine and Russia. More than ever, as we journey toward Advent, excitedly
anticipating the birth of our Savior, may we be stirred to offer small sacrifices for those who feel defeated and desperate during this time of unrest.
