Jail Ministry
Jail ministry is to give hope to those incarcerated, an understanding that God still loves them, and God is willing to forgive them. Jails are often places of hopelessness and despair.
Our group is called the Catholic Volunteers Worship Team, and we go to the Hamilton County Correction Facility downtown once a month on a Sunday for less than 2 hours total. We have a group that visits the Pathway House once a month as well.
We bring these inmates compassion along with the understanding that they are not forgotten. We are not there to preach to them, but to let them know we are all sinners and God is a forgiving God. When we go in to see the inmates, we are not there to be counselors, but to provide a communion service along with words of encouragement and hope. The ministry is an outlet for the inmates which allows them to share what may be troubling them and an opportunity for us to pray with them so they can feel loved and not abandoned.
This is an opportunity for us to make a difference in someone’s life who is facing hard times and loneliness. We won’t see the end result, but we are there to plant the seed and help it flourish. For further information you can contact Jerry Nordman at jnordman@fuse.net.
