Health & School Nurse

St. Ignatius School has a full-time nurse on staff during school hours. Kathy Reder, RN, BSN, can be reached at (513) 389-3242 ext. 4 or by email.

St. Ignatius follows the Ohio Department of Health laws and recommendations for school attendance in regards to immunization and illness. All children attending St. Ignatius School must have a current immunization record on file. St. Ignatius follows the guidelines recommended by the Ohio Department of Health for keeping sick children home from school.

The administration of all prescription medication at school requires the written order of a physician and the signed permission of the parent/guardian. An Administration of Medication form must be completed for each medication that needs to be administered at school. Forms can be brought in or faxed to the school nurse at (513) 389-3251.
All medication must be brought to the school nurse by the parent or guardian. Medication must be in original child-proof containers and have the original prescription label affixed including the student’s name, the name of the medication, dosage time, and current dosage. Any changes to the administration of prescription medication must be submitted in writing on a new Administration of Medication form, signed by the prescriber.

An optional Over The Counter Medication (OTC) Consent form is available to all students. With a parental electronic signature, the school nurse can administer only the medications listed on the form, which are: acetaminophen, ibuprofen, cough drops, and anti-itch ointment. Medications are administered according to the OTC label and directions. The school nurse will inform the parent if medication (other than cough drops) is administered. If your child is prescribed a dose of one of these medications that is different from the OTC label and directions, an Administration of Medication form is required. The electronic signature will be available each school year with the back-to-school forms, sent via email through ALMA.

Please keep your child’s school health record current by notifying the school nurse of any chronic medical conditions.

If an accident occurs at school or at a school-sponsored event, the student may be eligible for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati Accident Insurance Program.

COVID Protocol

We are following the current recommendations from the Ohio Department of Health:

  • If students or staff feel sick or suspect they might have COVID-19, they should stay home and be tested/consult their doctor.
  • If positive, students and staff should isolate/stay home from school for at least 5 days and longer if necessary until fever-free for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication) and symptoms are improving.
  • Additionally, after isolation ends, students and staff should continue to take precautions as they resume normal activities by wearing a mask for 5 days (or after two negative tests 48 hours apart).
  • Refer to this easy online tool to determine how long to isolate and mask.

**It is important to note that a positive test result often does not show up until a few days into symptoms.
