St. Ignatius Library Volunteers

Our school library is run and staffed 100% by volunteers like you. Moms, dads, grandparents, parishioners – all are welcome to help us to keep this valuable resource available to our students. No experience is necessary.

Our library is an easy place to work and your help makes such a big impact! It is also a great way to get to know other parents and your children’s classmates. While it is a commitment and our students depend on us to open the library, we understand that life happens. We are a team and sub for each other when life gets in the way.

There are two shifts of workers needed, mornings and afternoons. The length of the shift depends upon how many classes are scheduled during that half of the day. Volunteers are scheduled one day a month (always the same day) unless you request more than one shift. The library schedule is available here.

Students in grades K-5 are scheduled by their homeroom. The middle school students (grades 6-8) are permitted to come to the library during their study hall on Wednesdays. If you are interested in working during study hall, be aware your student may choose not to come to the library every week. The library opens for students the first week in October and closes in mid-May.

Volunteer duties include:

❖ checking in/out books
❖ shelving books
❖ tidying up the shelves
❖ helping students find age-appropriate books in their area of interest

Volunteers must be VIRTUS certified and current on all bulletins.

TRAINING for new volunteers and veterans who would like a refresher will be Wednesday, September 18th from 7-8:30pm in the school library.

All potential volunteers are welcome to attend, even if you want to see what it is like before committing to be a volunteer librarian for St. Ignatius.
