St. Ignatius School celebrated a special moment of faith on Oct. 21, as fifth-grade teacher Mr. Chad Rolph received the Sacraments of Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation, officially entering the Catholic Church.

Students and faculty from grades five through eight witnessed the celebration during a school Mass, with Mr. Rolph’s fiancée serving as his sponsor. When he returned to his fifth-grade classroom, his students welcomed him with applause.

Mr. Rolph has taught at St. Ignatius for three years. His journey toward the Catholic Church developed over time, shaped by the people and experiences in his life, including his time at St. Ignatius.

“I can see how God used the people around me and the circumstances of my life to lead me toward Him,” Mr. Rolph shared. “St. Ignatius became so much more than a place where I work. It became the place where I began to discover who I was, who I wanted to become.”

Mrs. Heisel described Mr. Rolph’s decision as an inspiring example for the community.

“Chad’s decision to become fully initiated into the Catholic Church is a beautiful witness to our entire school community,” Mrs. Heisel said. “It reminds all of us that faith is a lifelong journey and that God continues to work in our lives at every age.”

She also highlighted the importance of modeling faith for students.

“When they actually witness an adult taking such a significant step in his own faith journey, those lessons become real,” she said. “Faith formation doesn’t end when you graduate from school or receive your sacraments. It is something we continue to nurture and deepen throughout our lives.”

The students’ spontaneous applause made the moment even more meaningful. Mrs. Heisel called it “a genuine expression of love and support for their teacher.”

Mr. Rolph’s experience reflects St. Ignatius School’s mission to nurture faith and form disciples of Christ, demonstrating to students that growing closer to God is a lifelong journey.
