What is Family Unity Discernment (FUD) and why does it matter at St. Ignatius?

As part of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati’s Beacons of Light initiative, we are beginning a process called Family Unity Discernment, or FUD. The purpose is pretty straightforward: to take a good look at the resources God has given us and discern how we can best use them to carry out our mission of forming and sending missionary disciples.

FUD is a three-step process: 1) investigate, 2) reflect, and 3) recommend. We have already begun the work of gathering information about our parish. The next step is to reflect on that information and prayerfully consider what we have learned and what opportunities may be before us.

This means looking at things like our buildings, finances, staff, and volunteers. We want to understand what resources we have and how they currently support our mission, while also looking for opportunities to strengthen what we are already doing and work together more effectively. As a parish, we need to ask ourselves how our resources can best serve the mission of bringing the Gospel to our community.

All St. Ignatius parishioners are invited to participate in a Reflect Synod listening and discussion session on Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. in Loyola Hall. The session will include presentations from St. Ignatius parish staff and archdiocesan volunteers on several topics as they relate to our parish, including finances, buildings, sacraments, and evangelization. Visit https://bit.ly/ReflectSynod26 to register so we can plan for an expected number of attendees!

Everyone has a role to play in the life of our parish, and I encourage you to take part in this process. The Reflect Synod will give us an opportunity to listen and prayerfully consider how we can best use what God has entrusted to us. This is an important part of looking toward the future of St. Ignatius. I hope you will take the opportunity to be a part of it.
