About the St. Peter Upendo Community<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
\n\n\n\n

St. Peter Upendo Parish is in the resettlement area of Upendo (population 1,000) in Molo, Kenya.  This resettlement area was created in 2005 on land donated by the Catholic Archdiocese of Nakuru in the wake of brutal election violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following a turbulent history, many families were displaced from regions they once called home. The Catholic Diocese of Nakuru bought 100 acres in Molo and resettled about 100 of the displaced families, creating the Upendo community. Today, many challenges face this community, so St. Ignatius adopted the St. Peter Upendo community as a mission outreach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mission outreach program has assisted in many programs in the community, including building a new church to replace the sheet metal building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many hands make light work, so we can always use more people on our team.\u00a0We meet the 3rd Monday of each month.\u00a0For more information or to join our team, please contact Daniel Odipo (danielodipo@aol.com<\/a>)<\/strong>.\u00a0While you can always donate to the St. Peter Upendo fund by using the envelopes at each church entrance (or your own envelope with St. Peter Upendo written on the front), special collections for St. Peter Upendo will be held at different points in the year, such as the \u201cRaise the Roof\u201d campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

St. Peter Upendo Mission Trip \u2022 August 2024<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
\n\n\n\n

In August of 2024, six St. Ignatius parishioners visited our mission parish, St. Peter Upendo, in Molo, Kenya.\u00a0The trip was eye-opening for all of us.\u00a0We each gave our testimonials two weeks ago in church.\u00a0While we\u2019ve already done much, there is still much more to be done.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The best location for the new St. Peter Upendo Church is right where the existing one is located. It will be taken down and repurposed at an appropriate date and we will pour a slab of concrete over its existing footprint. Walls and the roof structure are next, but we are pausing so that we here at St Ignatius and there in Kenya can continue to raise funds. We are under budget and progressing nicely. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
