Musings from Fr. Dave ~ 21st Sunday Ordinary Time

“Who do you say that I am?” An age-old question! Jesus asks His
disciples, they mill around, not sure how to reply; Peter comes up with the answer. Today Jesus asks us the same question. How do we answer Him?

The church is all about Jesus and His presence to us; and yet we
divide ourselves into different camps. When you come down to it, we center ourselves in The Eucharist, in communion; if we believe that, divisions can blur. All of us are Catholic, which means we accept all truth no matter where it comes from. Catholic means universal.

On the other hand, if everyone believed in the same way and agreed on everything, I think that Mother Church would be an awfully boring place to be. If we can listen to the other openly, we grow, if we cannot stand hearing our brothers or sisters in faith we stagnate. Jesus invites us to that growth every time we pray and celebrate our sacraments together. I often tell newcomers to our faith that the church is a very colorful place to be. Yes, there are divisions, but those divisions help us to grow. I love the
church!

So, I leave you with that open-ended question of Jesus: “Who do you say that I am?
Love,
Fr. Dave
