Musings from Fr. Dave ~ 2nd Sunday of Advent

8 December 2020

Did you notice the year that I wrote? Yes, it is still 2019 by our secular calendar, but by our church calendar it is now 2020. Last week was New Years Day for Mother Church.

This is a beautiful time of year! I think it is definitely my favorite church season. When I celebrate this season well, it makes me enjoy the coming Christmas season all the more. I began setting up my Christmas Crèche this past Monday; just an empty Crèche with a few little birds perched on the rafters. I will take my time adding to it, it helps me to remember what Christmas is all about. Our church will start adding Christmas decorations pretty soon, decorations are already slowly appearing at the Friary where I live. By the time Christmas day arrives everything will be in “full bloom”. I love the cold weather, the snow, the bright cheerful warm colors of this most holy time of year.

The Word you hear today is a little more hopeful than last week. It will also, like my Christmas decorations, become vibrant and full of good cheer. So … enjoy this Advent Season. Think of some ways that you and your family and friends can make this Advent memorable. There are a little more than two weeks left before the Season of Christmas begins!
Love,
Fr. Dave
