IGGYFest on Hiatus for 2020 Due to Pandemic Concerns
After consultation with the Festival Committee, Pastoral Council and Finance Council, Fr. Fernandes has made the difficult decision to suspend the St. Ignatius summer festival this year. The decision was made with the health and safety of our volunteers, vendors, visitors, and community as overriding factors. In addition to current regulations from the state that do not yet permit festivals, the CDC quantifies events like church festivals as a “Highest Risk” level activity for the spread of COVID-19.
Given these environmental conditions/health risks, the public perception of holding the festival, and the logistical effort required to hold a successful festival in just five weeks, as well as the current numbers of infections in Hamilton County, the mandate to wear masks, and so much uncertainty regarding the pandemic and what could happen in August, calling off the Festival was the only responsible action the community could take.
This important parish tradition is one of our top events for fellowship and evangelization. Each year we renew enthusiasm for the parish, mobilize volunteers, engage new people, and create a family friendly environment that helps support the parish and its many ministries. We are brainstorming to see how we can safely put on alternate activities throughout the course of the year. What kinds of events would interest you and your family? Please email email@example.com to share your thoughts. Watch future parish communications for more information about upcoming plans.
